Sniper Elite 3

Summary:

In June 1942, during the Battle of Gazala, SOE sniper Karl Fairburne is sent to assassinate General Franz Vahlen and uncover his top-secret project. He helps British soldiers repel General Erwin Rommel’s forces, but ultimately, the port of Tobruk is lost. Fairburne heads to the Gaberoune oasis in Libya to kill several officers and reveal Vahlen’s whereabouts. He only finds a document revealing the name of Vahlen’s project, Project Seuche (literally meaning plague). The Long Range Desert Group asks for Fairburne’s assistance in destroying several Flak 88s in Halfaya Pass.

Introduction:

The latest chapter in the award-winning series, SNIPER ELITE 3 takes players to the unforgiving yet exotic terrain of North Africa in a savage conflict against Germany’s infamous Afrika Korps. Stalk your targets through the twisting canyons, lush oases and ancient cities of the Western Desert in the deadly rush to sabotage a Nazi super-weapons programme that could end Allied resistance for good. Use stealth, planning and execution to hunt your targets – whether human or machine. From signature long distance kills, to melee takedowns, distractions and explosive traps, you are as deadly up close as you are from afar. It must end here. You are the turning point. Because one bullet can change history…

Game Type:

Sniper Elite III is a third-person tactical shooter stealth video game.

In video games, “third-person” refers to a graphical perspective rendered from a fixed distance behind and slightly above the player character. This viewpoint allows players to see a more strongly characterized avatar, and is most common in action games and action adventure games. Games with this perspective often make use of positional audio, where the volume of ambient sounds varies depending on the position of the avatar. There are primarily three types of third-person camera systems: the “fixed camera systems” in which the camera positions are set during the game creation; the “tracking camera systems” in which the camera simply follows the player’s character; and the “interactive camera systems” that are under the player’s control.

A tactical shooter is a subgenre of shooter game that covers both first-person shooters and third-person shooters genres. These games simulate realistic combat, thus making tactics and caution more important than quick reflexes in other action games. Tactical shooters involving military combat are sometimes known as “soldier sims”

A stealth game (also known as sneak ’em up games) is a type of video game in which the player primarily uses stealth to avoid or overcome antagonists. Games in the genre typically allow the player to remain undetected by hiding, sneaking, or using disguises. Some games allow the player to choose between a stealthy approach or directly attacking antagonists, but rewarding the player for greater use of stealth. The genre has employed espionage, counter-terrorism, and rogue themes, with protagonists who are special forces operatives, spies, thieves, ninjas, or assassins. Some games have also combined stealth elements with other genres, such as first-person shooters and platformers.

A video game is an electronic game that involves interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device such as a TV screen or computer monitor. The word video in video game traditionally referred to a raster display device, but as of the 2000s, it implies any type of display device that can produce two- or three-dimensional images. Some theorists categorize video games as an art form, but this designation is controversial.

Game play:

This game has two playable contents,

  1. Single player campaign

  2. Multi-Player

Single Player campaign:

Like it’s predecessor, Sniper Elite III is a Third Person Shooter, with an emphasis on stealth. It is much quicker to use brute force if the player wishes to, though it can be tricky.

The Sniping Mechanics remain mostly the same with realistic ballistics, including shots being affected by the wind, and gravity over large distances. The ability to empty lung to give the illusion of time moving slower returns. The X-Ray Kill Game makes a return, and is largely unchanged. Sound can be utilized to mask shots, to cover the players position.

Stealth has been reworked, and instead of the detection bar at Karl’s feet, a meter will fill yellow above enemies heads, causing them to grow suspicious. Once they are in that state the meter will fill again, in red. If filled, the enemies will begin a full on assault. Breaking the line of sight with all enemies will cause a “ghost” to appear, signifying the last position the enemies saw Karl. The ability to Relocate has been added. Moving a certain distance from suspicion zones will lead enemies to abandon their search. Traps and distractions are still prevalent in game. One of the new features is a flint and steel that can be used to start fires. The Flint works on a timer, allowing for Karl to leave the area before the fire starts burning, allowing Karl to draw enemies to a certain area, or set explosives on a timer. The game opts for having a segmented health bar as opposed to complete regenerative health; it will heal to a point, though there is reliance on supplies to maintain life.

Weapons and equipment are can be selected before missions, and several presets can be saved. The game retains and builds on the mechanics of Sniper Elite V2. Players go through large battlefield maps based on the North African conflict.

The sniper rifle is the player’s primary weapon, though additional weapons, including submachine guns and pistols, silenced or not depending on the situation, are available. In addition to hand grenades, the player can deploy tripwire booby traps, land mines and dynamite. Binoculars can be used to tag enemies, displaying their position and movements. The player-character must hold their breath to properly line up the shot. A red icon appears in the scope, marking the projected point of impact. There are weapon parts spread out all over the game, found when looting dead enemies, allowing players to customize their weapons in the predeployment menu; the menu also allows equipment loadouts.

Stealth mechanics have been reworked. An eye icon squints or opens to denote the player’s level of detection by the enemy. Enemy soldiers will also have a circle meter over their heads to indicate alert status. Players are also forced to relocate periodically to prevent detection with a white ghost image to mark their last known position and the enemy will search a wider area. As in the previous game, loud sounds may be used to mask sniper shots.

A points system is instituted for actions such as stealth close-combat or sniper kills, with the points accumulating towards promotion to higher ranks. Players can go around the map to collect special reward items such as collectors’ cards and unlock sniper nests. Journal pages also provide further backstory into the events of the game.

V2‘s X-Ray kill cam system is retained as well. Where the previous game only shows the body’s internal structure at point of impact, the new game expands to visualize the rest of the cardiovascular, skeletal, and muscular systems. The player can still target vehicles, but now has a chance to shoot the engines and disable the vehicle.
